About Phantom of the Opera

by admin

Phantom of the Opera is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s adaptation of the French novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra by Gaston Leroux. The story follows Christine Daaé, a young engenue who dreams of becoming a famous opera singer. A mysterious “phantom” who lives in the opera house has tutored her and developed her voice since childhood, but no one takes him seriously. Meanwhile, Christine’s childhood friend Raoul sees her sing and they begin to fall in love, much to the chagrin of the Phantom. As the show continues, the love triangle gets more dangerous, and the story comes to a climax when Christine lures the Phantom onto his own stage to perform.

There are currently three long-running productions of Phantom of the Opera: one in New York at the Majestic Theatre on Broadway; one in London at Her Majesty’s Theatre; and the Las Vegas Spectacular at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. The latter is a special Vegas adaptation of the show, with over-the-top special effects and breathtaking scenery that is perfect for Vegas.
